Democracy in Action
Mock Election Recap at St. Michael’s Akademy — January 24, 2026
On January 24th, our school campus transformed into a buzzing hub of civic duty. In honor of National Voters’ Day, we traded our textbooks for ballot papers to host a full-scale Mock Election. It wasn’t just a lesson in politics; it was a hands-on experience in how leadership and democracy work.
The Candidates and the Crew
In a charming twist, our youngest learners from LKG were nominated as the official candidates. While they campaigned with smiles, students from various other grades stepped up to handle the “heavy lifting” of the electoral process.
After undergoing specialized training, our older students took on the vital roles of Polling Officers (ensuring flow), Booth Agents (maintaining integrity), and Presiding Officers (managing protocols).
Casting the Ballot
Adopting the traditional ballot paper method, the “voters” arrived at the polling stations with their school ID cards in hand, which served as their official Voter IDs for the day. This classic approach allowed everyone to witness the tangible nature of a vote—from the secret marking of the paper to the final drop into the ballot box.

The Final Count
Once the polls closed, the sealed ballot boxes were handed over to our Principal, who served as the Chief Election Commissioner. The tension was palpable as the vote counting began. Results were eventually announced in front of the entire student body, met with cheers and a newfound respect for the democratic process.
Why It Matters
Beyond the excitement, this mock election served a greater purpose:
- Practical Understanding: Students learned the step-by-step mechanics of voting.
- Responsibility: We explored the weight of choosing leaders and the importance of every single vote.
- Civic Awareness: Reinforcing our commitment to being informed, active citizens.
